The end of an era. That’s probably a bit what this is. This summer I drove my car for the very last time to Zimbabwe to sell it to a friend of mine. It wasn’t until the end I suddenly realised I will actually going to miss this car. And since things like this make you a bit nostalgic I went looking for some pictures and some good memories… There were plenty! So I thought I share a few… 🙂

It took quite a while before this blog appeared, but it’s like that with all good things right?
So we started off the end of August in Windhoek very curious about whether the car would be ready or not. Since ‘this is Africa’, of course it wasn’t. We had a little accident on our last trip, which you can read (and see) right here. At the end of that last trip we also ordered a little cupboard for the car, since I struggled with the very clunky box that contains most of the ‘kitchen stuff’. That box had a heavy wooden lid on top and everything was on top of each other, so getting stuff out there was always a mission. Anyway, turned out that getting stuff ready in time in Africa is even a bigger mission!

We had a bit of a bumpy start this Africa trip. The end of February we landed in Windhoek and one day later we spent the day in the hospital (at least part of it). All of a sudden Jens had a big bump on his elbow. Well, the word ‘bump’ doesn’t really do justice to the thing there, since it was huge, but you’ll get the idea. Probably it was a late effect of falling down in Mexico, although it was a bit strange that it only appeared a month or more later. A true mystery! But armed with some advice and pills, off we were!

Während der zwei Monate auf der Südhalbkugel haben wir vergessen, wie sich 12 Grad am Tag anfühlen. Nun sind wir seit knapp einer Woche zurück in Deutschland, ziehen uns warm an, trinken Roiboos-Tee und wartend auf mehr Sonne, erstellen wir den neuen Blog.
Reise der Highlights… Dieses Jahr wagte ich erneut die Fahrt nach Namibia, allerdings mit Magdalenas Begleitung 🙂 Nach strammen und langen fast 1200km Fahrt von Johannesburg kamen wir am ersten Reisetag abends pünktlich kurz vor Sonnenuntergang zu dem obligatorischen Sundowner in Grunau/Namibia an! Mit den gefahrenen Kilometern hatten wir dann auch den längsten Teil der Anreise hinter uns.
Der Sommer, der keiner war! Aber darüber will ich eigentlich garnicht schreiben!
Der regelmäßige Blog-Leser wird es gemerkt haben, es gab längere Zeit keinen Blog-Eintrag von mir! Tja, das kann passieren, wenn man abends nach dem Essen im Messum-Krater in seinen Computer ein Glas Wein schüttet! 🙁
Nach fast einer Woche Werkstatt in Swakopmund dachten wir (die Leute von der Werkstatt und ich), die dringensten Probleme am Toyo gelöst zu haben.
Ich fuhr los in Richtung Spitzkoppe, die Tankanzeigen spielten wieder verrückt, dachte ich, denn die Tankanzeige für den hinteren Tank wurde während der Fahrt nicht leerer und die Tankanzeige für den vorderen Tank wurde viel zu schnell leer. Also fuhr ich noch an eine Tankstelle.
