After Nxai Pan and Makgadikgadi (read the story here) we stayed in Maun with friends until our car (broken axel) was fixed. It took some time, but in African terms, it went smooth and fast, truly! Next some shopping for the following part of the trip and we were good to go! Plan was to drive into the Okavango Delta, to visit friends in Khwai.

Botswana, Nxai Pan, Sept. 2016
After a short visit with friends in Maun we started this trip in Nxai Pan. It’s a park where there’s always something to see it seems. We would stay four to five days and since we booked last minute we had to change campsites a few times. Luckily we’re quite mobile anyway and the campsites are close to one another. The very first campsite was the one looking out over the pan, quite close to one of the ablution blocks. There were some elephants around, which is always nice of course. But one of these elephants was injured pretty bad at his belly and he tried to get some water out of the pipes coming from the ablution blocks. They dug a hole in the ground exposing a waste pipe and every once in a while there was a power contest between some of the elephants for the key position at this waste pipe. A bit sad to see. For sure because the poor elephant was injured so badly. Continue reading →
Botswana, April 2016
We started this trip in CKGR or the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. It is beautiful this time of the year right after rainy season, since everything is really green. We still had some rain every once in a while which gave us this beautiful rainbow at one point. Because of that it was also still muddy though at some stretches, as you can see on one of the pictures. We had to pull out a friend who got stuck. And every once in a while Jens plays mechanic since there’s some noise or he discovered something at a check up. Luckily he always pays attention in the workshops.

Namibia, March 2016
We had a bit of a bumpy start this Africa trip. The end of February we landed in Windhoek and one day later we spent the day in the hospital (at least part of it). All of a sudden Jens had a big bump on his elbow. Well, the word ‘bump’ doesn’t really do justice to the thing there, since it was huge, but you’ll get the idea. Probably it was a late effect of falling down in Mexico, although it was a bit strange that it only appeared a month or more later. A true mystery! But armed with some advice and pills, off we were!

Zimbabwe, Mana Pools, October 2015
After an amazing time in Botswana (see here), I continued to my favorite park of the bunch, Mana Pools. I’ll keep this blogpost very short since the images really speak for themselves. There were so many great moments, Continue reading →
Botswana, Khwai, September 2015
This trip started off in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, more precisely in Khwai. Over the years people I got to know turned into friends and since they live (and work) over there I went for a visit. It’s also a great area if you love leopards, since you’ve got a good chance to spot them here.

Botswana, April 2015
