So, right after the Kalahari (you can read about that right here) I drove up to Nxai Pan. Not too much of a ride (in African terms) so I got there the same day. The sandy road from the gate to the pan, was not always easy to drive. You need to be focused and ready to react.
Nxai Pan is always worth going, if you ask me. Since it’s pretty small (again definitely African terms), you always see something. And due to the zebra migration I saw a lot of zebras this time. They even were served for breakfast here…
I assumed a cheetah killed this unfortunate little one. I’m not sure since I didn’t see it, but lions wouldn’t have left it for the jackals and vultures. In this case it’s possible the jackals chased the cheetah away. It was a true feast for them since there was still lots of meat on the carcass. Also the vultures had a proper meal here.
A little prettier images to show you a bit of the beauty of Nxai Pan, which was also quite green. Giraffes and cheetahs on a little afternoon stroll and zebras migrating and hugging each other goodbye. Or something like that…
And everywhere in Nxai Pan (as in the Kalahari) you come across Kori Bustards. These funny looking huge birds that only fly a little bit when they really have to.
After a few days I drove back to Maun, since my next stop would be Khwai again to visit good friends (human and animal ones). And in Maun, I spotted this unusual sighting: a very determined monitor lizard looking for eggs…
